I am proud to have served as an Edinburgh MP for 22 years, first in Edinburgh Central and now in Edinburgh South West. I am married with two student children and live in the city. I have been in the cabinet since 1997 and Chancellor of the Exchequer since June 2007. During the last three years I have worked hard alongside Gordon Brown and my international colleagues to rebuild the banking system and secure the economy. And at all times I have been striving to secure jobs, keep people in their homes and help businesses through the recession.
Since 1997 the government has made huge strides, rebuilding schools and hospitals, creating more apprenticeships, almost doubling the number of people going to university and helping pensioners.
